Hey everyone, this is Abigail, your host of Nothing Left Unsaid, and I'm excited to be back for another episode. Today we're going to be discussing Trump Hellscape Summer, recent Arizona primary wins, and the Manosphere. It is summer. It's hot AF outside, and we can't cool off with berries or salad without getting explosive diarrhea. Our beaches are filled with flush-eating bacteria. Half the country is choking on wildfire smoke, and AI data centers are treating our communities like an all-you-can-drink. Welcome to Trump Hellscape Summer. First, I want to give a huge shout out to some winners from Arizona's primary election. In LD 24, we have Lisbeth Arescurinaga and Alberto Flores, who won against two moderate Democrats who are backed by corporations. These two progressive candidates will likely be joining Senator Annalise Ortiz, representing Glendale and Maryville, to fight for working families. This is really exciting. We get to say bye-bye to Lydia Hernandez, who voted for a fetal personhood bill in a previous session. And it's really exciting because this is basically like our first real fully progressive slate in the Arizona legislature. So really excited to see what amazing work they will do alongside Annalise. In LD8, Lauren Kuby and Brian Garcia won their primaries. A PAC funded by Airbnb, APS, and the Arizona Realtors Association spent more than $22,000 opposing Lauren and Brian. So are really excited to have seen them fight these attacks off, and this is a real win for working people in Arizona. In recent weeks, ICE has killed multiple people while in ICE custody. Two fathers in Maine and Texas, Juan Sebastian Guerrero and Lorenzo Salgado Arajo, were both shot and killed by ICE on their way to work to provide for their families. Then just a few days later, after less than a week in ICE custody, a 45-year-old man, Jesus Manuel Arena Silva, died because ICE wouldn't let him take his medicine. This is such an incredibly cruel way to die. Nothing justifies these killings, not immigration status, not whether they were permitted to work here, not even if they were the intended target of these arrests. We will see that ICE and the state will continue to use language to try and normalize their murders of people. But at the end of the day, this is immigration status is paperwork. Nothing justifies killing these people in the street, and ICE should not be allowed to exist. All those that are responsible for these murders need to be prosecuted to the full extent. In Arizona, reporting has come out about the abuses occurring at Eloy Detention Center. Just a few weeks ago, 120 people currently detained in Eloy signed a letter alleging a variety of human rights abuses happening at that concentration camp. These abuses include prolonged use of solitary confinement, limited access to clean drinking water, unhealthy food, and extreme temperatures. In general, ICE detention facilities and immigration detention facilities have seen an unprecedented spike in deaths. Advocates in Arizona have been fighting for the release of Yadi, a leukemia patient that ICE has been holding for 15 months, despite her declining health and fighting to get her out before it's too late. Congresswoman Yasimin Ansari has been doing really good oversight work, visiting a lot of these facilities without announcing them. And she recently accounted the story of Genesis, which is a who is a trans woman that's been detained at Eloy for five months and has told Ansari that she's been placed in solitary confinement, strapped to a wheelchair, and handcuffed, belted, and questioned for hours. Genesis works in the kitchen and gets $3 a day, which you could argue is equivalent to modern day slavery. And she's also reported unclean food and water, lack of air conditioning, and she's been placed with men despite requesting to be placed with other women. It's unconscionable what is happening in this facility, and these are only the things that we know about. It's important that we keep fighting to close the concentration camps that are open, not let any more new ones be built, and continue to hold ICE accountable for the terror and atrocities that they're inflicting on people. I haven't had caffeine in a few days, so I'm like, ooh, there's that, Dr. Pepper. This all brings me to the topic of flock cameras. We know that one thing enabling the terror that's being brought on communities by ICE is these flock cameras. They're watching us over at over a hundred thousand intersections across the country. Flock cameras are informing the ICE searches that are ending in deaths and abductions. In Texas, the flock cameras were used to track down a woman who got an abortion. There's also examples, horrifying examples, of it being abused by local police to stalk exes and surveilled children. I suppose this is no surprise because the people who are taking jobs with ICE are generally horrible, despicable people with histories of being violent and being predators. But people are fighting back. We know that flock cameras are fueling the fascist, violent police state that is growing around us. In Chandler in May, the community packed City Council to speak against the city's flock contract, and City Council is currently reviewing that, though they've delayed the vote on that for two months in a row now. But the bottom line is flock has got to go. We have to take down this authoritarian infrastructure one city council at a time. I do want to give a special shout out to the Virginia man who destroyed flock cameras. He pled not guilty because he says that flock cameras are unconstitutional, and I just think that's pretty badass and baller. Another negative thing that Arizona is making the headlines for, uh we love to rank first at the worst statistics and last at the best statistics. But snap cuts are happening across the country, and Arizona has been hit the hardest. Nearly half a million Arizonians have lost access, and 205,000 of those Arizonans are children. These are all a result of Trump snap cuts that were supported by Republicans in Congress, including all of our Arizona Republicans, Juan Cisco Mani, Eli Bit, Eli Crane, and Andy Biggs. It's really disgusting that we are stealing literal food off the tables of kids and families who need it. I saw one story, I believe, in the New York Times, which was sharing the story of Dee McDonald, who is a 65-year-old cancer survivor. She weighs 69 pounds and she's been skipping meals since losing her SNAP access so that she can continue to afford to feed her three teenage grandsons that she's raising. Really shows a lot about MAGA's priorities that they are continuously attacking resources for those who need them and then putting that money towards tax cuts for billionaires and killing civilians overseas. Like a 65-year-old cancer survivor who weighs 69 pounds is starving herself so that her three teenage grandsons don't starve, and that is a result of decisions made by people in power like Donald Trump, like Andy Biggs, like Eli Crane, like Juan Ciscomani. And while the US government is sending a very clear message that they're refusing to feed people, uh they also apparently can't manage to keep food safe. This summer, America's new national pastime is sprinting to the bathroom. Under Donald Trump, the federal government has completely gutted the CDC and rolled back food safety inspections. And now America collectively has explosive diarrhea. I wish that I were making this up, truly. I don't want to be talking about this. And you know, the whole thing with public health is that we all pay a little bit in taxes so that we can trust that our food is safe, that is free from diseases, and that effectively we won't be shitting our brains out. But while the CDC used to track outbreaks, now we're tracking outbreaks in our group chats. Not sure if big toilet paper is a donor to Donald Trump, but that would make a little bit of sense at least. I just came up with that on the spot. As for another topic that has been ongoing for months now, uh the Iran war. Currently it is back on, although, of course, peace talks are allegedly continuing. Um the Trump administration is doing their best to cover for all of their failures in the region, and of course, gas prices are already notably up. And while all this is happening, what do they want to do? They want to give even more money to the Pentagon. Thank goodness we have such an amazing deal maker like President Trump. All right, now for a bit of good news, um good news out of bad news, but the Tate brothers were arrested in the UK, accused once again of strangling women unconscious and raping them. Um I personally hope that they rot, but Representative Abe Hamiday from Arizona is defending them and said the charges are unclear and politically motivated. Uh I'm not sure what is so unclear to him about these guys being accused of rape, sex trafficking, and violence going back years and in multiple countries, but we know MAGA's whole platform at this point is covering up for sexual abusers and predators. Unfortunately, another Arizonan is making Andrew Tate-related news. Um, a Gilbert viral pastry chef now has a second full-time job deleting comments on his Instagram account. He wants everyone to know that he actually totally supports women. Uh, but he just went on a Manosphere podcast to talk about how shallow and superficial he thinks all women are and to debate and defend misogyny. Regardless of the Olympic level backtracking that he's currently doing, during the podcast, he clearly raises both flags to show he agrees that Andrew Tate, just mentioned him, is a positive role model for young men. Uh so yeah, catch me at JLPatisserie. More great news. Pete Heggseth now supports gender-affirming care. Under his new policy, um, the military will conduct annual testosterone checks for anyone over 30. And if their testosterone is found to be low, they'll be offered testosterone replacement therapy. Just to be clear, uh testosterone replacement therapy is literally gender-affirming care. It affirms the gender identity of men whose testosterone is lower than expected. I definitely didn't have this on my 2026 bingo card, and as a reminder, uh we still don't have universal health care, but at least we're getting universal testosterone as long as you're a cisman. If you want to support trans kids this year, make sure to vote no on Prop 318 this November. This is a measure pushed by Republicans and the legislature to discriminate and segregate against trans kids in public facilities and on sports teams. Finally, uh, I guess I have to talk about this. Um, Ruben Gallego introduced new legislation to create the Office of Men's Health. When I saw the announcement this morning, I had to check my calendar and make sure that it was not April 1st. Like I legitimately almost spit out my drink because that is such a joke. Um the fact is, as many people know famously, uh health research has always been centered on men. It's women and people of color who don't get their pain taken seriously. Diseases and illnesses and conditions that primarily affect women are get significantly less funding and less attention paid to them. Uh the maternal mortality rate, for example, is a thing. Um, you know, and to be clear, men's health challenges are real and they deserve attention. But to act as if there's a a gaping crisis, a gaping men's health crisis is a real choice to pander to the manosphere and certain, shall we say, toxic audiences. Uh, and it's not a good look. In his statement announcing the proposed Office of Men's Health, he said, when we invest in men's health, we build stronger families and stronger communities. And that is just so completely missing the point. Um but maybe we should take it one step further and we could create the Office of White Men's Health, since we're dealing with historically underprioritized communities. You can go to azvoteregistration.com to register to vote, update your address, and also to request your mail and ballot because who doesn't love not having to actually go stand in line to make their voices heard? Um, the deadline to register to vote is Monday, October 5th, and the deadline to request a ballot is Friday, October 23rd. But there's no problem in just pulling out your phone and doing that now.
